The Young Riders had no real chance of staying on the air because the ABC Network kept moving it around, and viewers could not find it. It premiered in 1989 on Thursday evenings in the 9:30-10:30 timeslot. In 1990, it was moved to Saturday in the 8:00-9:00 PM timeslot. In 1991, it was still on Saturday nights, but now occupied the 9:00-10:00 PM timeslot. Season Three was the oddest year, as there was a four-month period when the series disappeared from the air waves altogether. It appeared to be gone for good, and then unexpectedly, it returned to run another two months before being yanked permanently. The series did, however, perform a sort of closure for the viewing audience. Kid and Lou married and went to live happily ever after. Ike was killed while protecting the only girl he truly loved, and Noah died in the early days of the Civil War. William Tompkins continued to run his store, and we know what happened to Jimmy, Cody, and Jesse from their real-life legends. We can surmise that Buck returned to his Kiowa brothers and Teaspoon married.
There were three 2-hour episodes to this series, just so you know to look for both halves, and each movie was the last to be filmed in a season. The only movie actually listed as a 2-part episode is Gathering Clouds from Season One, but The Exchange from Season Two and Til Death Do Us Part from Season Three are also 2-hour episodes.
